In preparation for the road trip to New Zealand later in the year I decided on a test run at writing a blog page using our upcoming trip to Morzine in France for the annual Walters ski pilgrimage. Ian and Chris love the feel of skis on snow and like nothing better than besting each other for speed using the wonderful 'ski tracks' app, a superb addition to any ski holiday and one that simply cannot give an incorrect reading. I think Ian holds the record (of course), but Chris is hot on his heels. Vicky and I are more about the scenery, this means that we far prefer to take a leisurely switchbacky route down, crossing from one side of the slope to the other while descending a maximum of a metre down the mountain on each pass. Vicky loves this approach so much that her arms tend to flap up and down in excitement resembling some kind of farmyard bird. Once at the bottom of the chosen slope we usually find the boys waiting patiently and off we go again, queuing patiently for the ski lift at the beginning of the week and wading in poles flying at the end. The day usually progresses like this till lunchtime, which will be at a beautiful mountaintop restaurant with amazing views (jealous yet) , then Vicky and I will decide on one more run before descending to the hotel to rest/ imbibe in the alcohol of the region, this time I expect it will be mulled wine or Brandy. The boys will arrive back just as it starts to get dark having wanted to get the maximum skiing time in. After tea we all retire to the bar to rehash the day, remembering the amazing runs we did, the spectacular falls, the annoying other skiers etc... You get the picture.
So this is how it's going to be.. Kathy can't come with us this year unfortunately so this blog is dedicated to her, and to my big sister Heather who I know loves this sort if thing. I am going to try to insert photos, put in little anecdotes etc, so
that when the road trip comes around I will be an expert blogger.
